AT&T Inc. operates its Houston-area headquarters in an office building at 6500 West Loop South; Chevron has a 33-acre campus at 4800 Fournace Place in Bellaire that is the headquarters for the Chevron Pipe Line Company alo ng with several other business units. CenterPoint Energy maintains a major service facility at 4300 Bissonnnet, and South Texas Dental has its corporate headquarters in Bellaire.
The campus of Houston Baptist University (HBU) is located near Bellaire. Founded in 1960, HBU is a highly respected private university located on a 100-acre campus just off the Southwest Freeway. HBU now has over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
With 28 million square feet of commercial office space, Uptown Houston is one of the nation’s largest business districts.
Its silhouette bears the stamp of some of the world’s leading architects including Cesar Pelli and Philip Johnson. Signature buildings including Post Oak Central, Four Oaks Place, Four Leaf Towers, the Galleria and the post-modern triumph of the 64-story Williams Tower are among the city’s most famous architectural landmarks.

This bustling commercial scene also includes beautiful public spaces such as Memorial Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States.
The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical center in the world with one of the highest densities of clinical facilities for patient care, basic science, and translational research.
The Medical Center contains 54 medicine-related institutions, including 21 hospitals and eight specialty institutions, eight academic and research institutions, three medical schools, six nursing schools, and schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy, and other health-related practices.
The Texas Medical Center receives an average of 3,300 patient visits a day and over seven million annual patient visits, including over 18,000 international patients. The Medical Center employs over 106,000 people, including 20,000 physicians, scientists, researchers and other advanced degree professionals in the life sciences.
From its origins in the 1930’s as an ad hoc cluster of retail stores, Rice Village has grown to become one of Houston’s shopping destinations. Host to over 300 shops in a 16-block area, Rice Village is known for its many small and eclectic shops and boutiques.
Recent expansion in the area has also brought in high-end clothing stores and the nation-wide retail venues. The Village is host to dozens of restaurants; along with traditional eateries there are restaurants specializing in food from all over the world.
Montrose, established in 1911, is a demographically diverse area with renovated mansions, bungalows with wide porches, and cottages located along tree-lined boulevards. A major cultural hub, Montrose hosts a number of communities including artists and musicians, and has thrift, vintage, and second-hand stores, gay bars, and restaurants. Notable Montrose landmarks include the Menil Collection art gallery, the Rothko Chapel, and the campus of the University of St. Thomas.
The lush and luxurious River Oaks area contains some of the most coveted (and expensive) real estate in the city. But it’s not only the mansions that draw onlookers; there are plenty of boutiques, restaurants and art galleries that give the inner-loop spot its character. NRG Park is a world-class entertainment and convention center site composed of three venues: NRG Stadium, a 69,500-seat indoor stadium; NRG Center, a convention and exposition facility covering 1.4 million square feet; and NRG Arena, a venue for smaller arena events.
NRG Stadium is home to the Houston Texans NFL team, as well as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the largest indoor rodeo in the world. In 2004, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) opened a light-rail system that stretches from the far north side of Houston to NRG Park. The Red Line offers services between the University of Houston Downtown campus, downtown Houston, Midtown, Rice University, the Texas Medical Center and NRG Park.
Meyerland is a 6,000-acre community first developed by George Meyer in 1955. Today, it is one of Houston’s most welcoming and livable communities. The heart of Meyerland’s commercial scene is Meyerland Plaza, which features 17 retail outlets and 10 restaurants.
Meyerland is also the center of Houston’s thriving Jewish community. It is the home of Houston’s Jewish Community Center, as well several prestigious synagogues, including Congregation Beth Israel and Congregation Beth Yeshurun.

The Houston Office of Protocol and International Affairs is the city’s liaison to Houston’s sister city associations and to the national governing organization, Sister Cities International. Through their official city-to-city relationships, these volunteer associations promote people-to-people diplomacy and encourage citizens to develop mutual trust and understanding through commercial, cultural, educational, and humanitarian exchanges.
